Lipid-based nanocarriers
Lipid-based nanocarriers such as liposomes and lipid nanoparticles (LNP) are clinically proven delivery vehicles for a range of therapeutic agents. Encapsulating active pharmaceutical ingredients within liposomes or LNPs can greatly increase their bioavailability, stability, and target tissue delivery. LNPs in particular have risen to prominence for the delivery of nucleic acid-based treatments.
Physical attributes of lipid-based nanocarriers such as their size, concentration, polydispersity (a measure of size heterogeneity), internal structure, and cargo loading are critically associated with both safety and efficacy. As such, rigorous particle analysis is a central feature of research, development, and manufacturing across this area.
DAISY-NTA is an ideal analytical tool, providing deeper insights into particle characteristics while also reliably reporting size, concentration, and polydispersity as required for process monitoring and quality control.
Advantages of DAISY-NTA
- Quantify LNP size down to 50 nm and liposome size below 100 nm (dependent upon refractive index).
- Low sample volume requirements. Obtain reliable size, concentration, polydispersity, and refractive index quantification from as little as 10 µl of sample.
- Reports internal structure of particles.
- Directly measures particle refractive index, associated with particle density and water content.
- Fast, DAISY-NTA data acquisition is typically in the range of 10 – 30 seconds per sample.
